2010 CAMP/LODGE OF THE YEAR PROGRAM AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Camp/Lodge of the Year Program has been developed by Woodmen of the World/Assured Life Association to recognize the outstanding fraternal performance, accomplishment and service demonstrated by individual camps/lodges within the society during the past calendar year in each of 4 categories:
- Best Fraternal Event
- Best Join Hands Day Event
- Best Community Service Event
- Best Camp/Lodge Newsletter
Each category of the Camp/Lodge of the Year Program will be awarded $250 for the being selected the "BEST" in the respective category. The $250 will be donated in honor and recognition of the camp/lodge to a charity of its choice.
One Camp/Lodge will be selected as the Camp/Lodge of the Year. The Camp/Lodge of the Year will be awarded $500 for its selection. The $500 will be donated in honor and recognition of the camp/lodge to a charity of its choice. Winners of this year's awards include:
2010 Best Fraternal Event
DBIA Lodge 35, Chicago, IL
for its 120th lodge anniversary luncheon. The lodge switched it up this year and instead of its normal dinner/dance, they had a luncheon; complete with an Elvis impersonator. The success of the event was demonstrated by signing up 20 new social members for the lodge.
2010 Best Join Hands Day Event
WOW Rocky Mountain Camp 999, Greenwood Village, CO for its support of the Habit for Humanity Home Improvement Center. Members of Rocky Mountain Camp 999 partnered with students from the Colorado School of Mines to volunteer for one of the Habit for Humanity Home Improvement Outlet Stores. Volunteers were assigned a major project for a house remodel where the owner was tearing out a retaining wall and donating the flagstone to Habitat for Humanity. 5 Rocky Mountain Camp members and 7 students participated in the project. The Habitat outlet store received a minimum of $100 per pallet of flagstone. Despite few tools volunteers removed over four truck loads of stone netting Habitat over $2,000. The camp logged about 72 volunteer hours in this project.
2010 Honorable mentions for the Camp/Lodge of the Year program included DBIA Lodge 29, Seattle, WA and DBIA Lodge 348, Eugene, OR.
