Each category of the Camp/Lodge of the Year Program will be awarded $250 for the being selected the "BEST" in the respective category. The $250 will be donated in honor and recognition of the camp/lodge to a charity of its choice.
One Camp/Lodge will be selected as the Camp/Lodge of the Year. The Camp/Lodge of the Year will be awarded $500 for its selection. The $500 will be donated in honor and recognition of the camp/lodge to a charity of its choice. Winners of this year's awards include:
DBIA Lodge 348, Eugene, OR for its Danish Christmas Service in December 2010. Approximately 120 people attended the Christmas service that was conducted in the Danish language. Afterwards, there was traditional signing around the Christmas tree and refreshments. Many people from outside of the Eugene area attend this event. What a great way to celebrate their Danish heritage and traditions.
Rocky Mountain Camp 999, Greenwood Village, CO for its May Baskets for the Elderly project. The camp partnered with Highlands Ranch Brownie Troop 1581 and Girl Scout Troop 2670 to provide May Baskets to the residents of The Manor on Marston Lake in Littleton, Colorado. Camp 999 purchased 40 baskets and supplies to decorate the baskets, along with African Violets to place in the baskets. Other contents of the baskets was two decaffeinated tea packets and 4-5 pieces of hard, sugarless candy wrapped in tool and tied with ribbon. The Brownie and Girl Scout Troops decorated the baskets under the supervision of Camp 999 members and Troop leaders. On May 1, 2010, Join Hands Day, Camp 999 members and the Troops visited the residents of The Manor on Marston Lake with a short program by the girls and presented each resident with a May Basket. Camp 999 logged a total of 61 hours of volunteer service involving 15 members and 46 non-members for the entire project.
DBIA Lodge 29, Seattle, WA for its fall food drive. Lodge 29 has once again demonstrated its fraternal spirit towards Service through its food drive for Hopelink of Redmond, Washington. This lodge collected 570 lbs of food, surpassing 2009’s drive through the lodge by 160 lbs! In addition, 2 benefit members donated $150 which was doubled through the Society’s Growth Ring Matching Gift program. PLUS another $63 in cash donations were collected during the drive. We value DBIA Lodge 29's support of this national service campaign.
